About the Department of Biosciences (IBV), University of Oslo

The Department of Biosciences (IBV) has five research sections; Aquatic Biology and Toxicology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology and Cell Biology, Genetics and Evolutionary Biology and Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis.

The Department’s research focuses on understanding the fundamental biological processes from molecular and cellular level to population and ecosystem level.

The Department has 130 employees, and about 175 PhD students and postdocs/researchers. There are at any given time about 650 students divided into undergraduate and graduate level.

The Department of Biosciences (IBV) was established January 2013, following the merge of the Departments of Molecular Biosciences and Biology.
