Seeking Research Assistant in Cell Mechanics and Mechanobiology at the Mechanobiology Institute, National University of Singapore

The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading multi-disciplinary institute devoted to developing new paradigms for understanding biological functions in health and diseases from the perspective of cell, tissue and organ mechanics/dynamics and mechano-signal transduction. The institute operates on a fully integrated open-lab philosophy, with an extensive infrastructure supported by core facilities dedicated to technology such as state-of-the-art light microscopy, nano- and micro- fabrication, and computing.

Job description

We are inviting applications for a Research Assistant to support ongoing research in the area of cell mechanics and mechanobiology in research group of Prof. Lim Chwee Teck. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to investigate how mechanical forces influence cellular behavior, with applications in cancer biology, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. The selected candidate’s key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the design and execution of experiments related to cellular biomechanics, including traction force microscopy, micropatterning, and live-cell imaging
  • Supporting day-to-day lab operations, including equipment maintenance, reagent preparation, and inventory management
  • Ensuring adherence to lab safety protocols and regulatory compliance
  • Analyzing experimental data using standard tools (e.g., MATLAB, ImageJ, Excel) and assist in preparing research reports and documentation
  • Working collaboratively with researchers, graduate students, and external partners to support project goals

Qualifications & Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field is also welcomed
  • Experience with cell culture techniques, microscopy, and mechanical testing methods is advantageous
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, or Python) and an interest in using generative AI tools for research support
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage responsibilities effectively in a research environment

Salary and benefits are commensurable to educational qualifications and working experience of the candidates.
