Seeking Laboratory Technologist (Wet Lab Core Facility) at the Mechanobiology Institute, NUS

The Mechanobiology Institute, Singapore is a multi-disciplinary institute committed to developing new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration and function.

Job Description

We are currently seeking to recruit a Laboratory Technologist for our Wet Lab Core Facility.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Collecting and sterilizing biohazard waste
  • Handling other types of waste, including cytotoxic, chemical, and general waste
  • Replenishing consumables, performing stocktaking, and housekeeping of laboratory stores, tissue culture facilities, core facility rooms, sample preparation room, and cold room
  • Washing glassware and restocking storage cabinets
  • Providing laboratory support services (including autoclaving labware and media, refilling and autoclaving of pipette tips, and coordinating and overseeing onsite liquid nitrogen tank refilling by the appointed vendor)
  • Assisting with the purchase of laboratory consumables
  • Preparing 70% ethanol
  • Changing gas cylinders
  • Receiving and managing laboratory deliveries
  • Conducting inspections of safety-related equipment, including eyewash stations, emergency showers, chemical and biological spill kits, and panic buttons
  • Cleaning safety equipment such as safety glasses, goggles, and face shields
  • Assisting with chemical waste collection by the licensed hazardous waste contractor
  • Supporting general laboratory operations and performing stand-in duties as required

Requirements

  • Minimum GCE-N level
  • Able to speak and read English
  • Proficient in in basic computer applications and skills such as Microsoft Excel and Outlook for emails
  • Hard working, responsible and proactive
  • Willing to undergo mandatory N95 mask fit testing
  • Prior working experience in a biological research laboratory will be an added advantage
