MECHANOBIOLOGY INSTITUTE’S 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Mechanobiology Institute, National University of Singapore celebrates 10 years of Mechanobiology
The Mechanobiology Institute, National University of Singapore was established 10 years ago. As one of the five Research Centres of Excellence set up by the National Research Foundation and Ministry of Education, Singapore, MBI has been at the forefront of world-class research in mechanobiology. Over the past decade, the basic idea at the heart of mechanobiology—that mechanical forces can impact biological processes—has become integral for research in the life sciences, physics, and engineering fields. To mark this success, MBI plans to celebrate its 10th anniversary with the following events:
MECHANOBIOLOGY AFTER 10 YEARS: THE PROMISE OF MECHANOMEDICINE
Satellite Meeting: Women in Science, An Afternoon of Inspiration
Leading women scientists in the field of mechanobiology will come together for a discussion of practical strategies to combat gender bias in the sciences. Speakers range from senior professors to starting assistant professors, so a range of experience from different milestones along the career path will be explored.
Topics of discussion will include: challenges for women in science, implicit bias in academia, life/work balance, and the #metoo and #inclusion rider movements as they pertain to a career in the sciences.
Talks will be held from 1pm onward, followed by a panel discussion from 5-6pm. Thereafter, we hope you’ll join us for Deepavali celebrations and a happy hour at the T-Lab, MBI. See the full programme, plus speakers and and more
Organised by the MBI Women in Science Initiative and the Mechanobiology Institute, National University of Singapore (MBI).
MECHANOBIOLOGY INSTITUTE’S 10TH ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE
Mechanobiology after 10 Years: The Promise of Mechanomedicine
The field of mechanobiology has grown significantly in the last ten years and mechanosensing and mechanotransduction are now common elements in the analysis of most cellular functions.
We invite researchers, clinicians and students interested in understanding how targeted mechanical stimuli can alter biochemical processes, to join us as we continue to define areas where the understanding of mechanobiology can dramatically alter our approaches to fundamental biological problems in cancer, cardiovascular disease, and the problems associated with aging. Full programme, plus speakers and registration
Organised by the Mechanobiology Institute, National University of Singapore (MBI), in partnership with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France, The FIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology, Italy, The National Centre for Biological Sciences, India, and The Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel
MECHANOBIOLOGY INSTITUTE’S GRADUATE STUDENT CONGRESS
Mechanobiology International Graduate Student Congress (MBIGSC) 2018
The Mechanobiology International Graduate Student Congress (MBIGSC) 2018 is the inaugural event organized by MBI graduate students, with support from the Mechanobiology Institute and the National University of Singapore. This two-day congress follows the MBI 10th Anniversary conference, and will take place from 11-12 November 2018 at the T-Lab building, NUS.
With the theme of “Mechanomedicine: MEDiating the Force”, MBIGSC 2018 aims to provide a forum for graduate students to exchange their latest research findings, learn about the future of mechanobiology, and how this multi-disciplinary science can be applied to biomedicine. The congress will also provide opportunities for young scientists to explore potential careers in industry, scientific policy, and other related fields
The first day of the congress consists of student speakers sharing their research in basic and applied mechanobiology, along with poster and networking sessions. The second day includes a panel discussion with a range of people from academia, industry, and government to highlight the diverse future career opportunities for graduate students in mechanobiology. Full programme, plus speakers and registration
MBI’s 10th Anniversary conference will attract approximately 300 participants from all parts of the world. We hope to see you in November! For more information:
