SUMMARY:Theory Journal Club Meeting: Physics of Tissue Hydraulics by Chii Jou (Joe) Chan
DESCRIPTION:Dear MBI community\,\n\n\n\nMBI Theory Journal Club is thrilled to announce our upcoming meeting next week (5/5 Wed\, 9:30). Asst. Prof. Chii Jou (Joe) Chan will discuss a review article on the physics of lumen formation by Torres-Sánchez et al. [https://arxiv.org/abs/2104.05263] . Please feel free to join us in this informal session. Kindly refer to the meeting details below.\nTheory Journal Club Meeting\nDate: 5 May 2021\, Wednesday\nTime: 9:30am SGT\nLocation: Level 9 meeting room and zoom (hybrid) \nTheory Journal Club Meeting: Physics of Tissue Hydraulics\nBy Chii Jou (Joe) Chan\, Principal Investigator\, MBI \n\nMeeting Summary:\nLumen formation plays an essential role in the morphogenesis of tissues during development. In this talk I will discuss a recent review on the physical principles underlying lumen growth and coarsening [arXiv:2104.05263]. We will discuss the role of solute pumping by the cell\, hydraulic flows driven by difference of osmotic and hydrostatic pressures\, force balance between extracellular fluids and cytoskeletal forces\, and electro-osmotic effects. The discussion will be focused less on the theoretical derivation of the equations\, and more on the underlying biophysical concepts and implications of these equations.\n\n\n\n\n\nFind Help\nNon MBI staff who are interested in attending should contact Qiao Jing at mbilqj@nus.edu.sg for Zoom details. DESCRIPTION:MBI Seminar\n\n\n\nTime: 4.00pm\nDate: Monday\, 10 May 2021 \nDissecting the role of tissue-specific cancer-associated fibroblasts in the prostate tumour microenvironment\nBy Anna Jaeschke\, Queensland University of Technology\, Australia (Host: Chii Jou Chan) \nBiography\nAnna is a biomedical scientist with a background in bioengineering and medical biology. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the University in Tuebingen\, Germany\, she received a Master of Science degree from the Technische University Dresden\, Germany. During the Master’s course\, Anna joined several research groups in Germany\, Sweden\, and the US to work on clinically-focused research projects. Her interest in tissue engineering and 3D cell culture techniques led her to Australia\, where she enrolled in a PhD program at the Queensland University of Technology\, under the supervision of Dr Laura Bray and Distinguished Professor Dietmar W. Hutmacher.
