SUMMARY:2017 Bootcamp on Mechanobiology
DESCRIPTION:This nine-day “Bootcamp” style course will cover fundamental concepts and practical approaches in understanding cellular functions. The focus is to develop a breadth of knowledge in quantitative techniques to allow bioscience researchers to pursue further depth in their respective research work. \nMajor topics include: gene editing\, cellular structure and processes\, statistics\, bio-imaging\, image analysis\, modelling\, and quantitative methods in biology. There will be extensive tutorials in using Matlab\, complemented by hands-on microscopy and wet-lab sessions.  Students will work as part of a team to tackle problems and to develop a report on an open area of modern bioscience research. \nThe Bootcamp lectures are open to all interested graduate students and post-docs. For graduate students the lectures will be reinforced in thematic-based practicals\, leading to 4-MC. \nDates: 4 August to 12 August 2017\nWhere: CREATE Theatrette\, Level 2\, 1 CREATE Way\, CREATE Tower\, NUS \n  \nSpeakers\n\n\n\nProf Michael SHEETZ\nProf Paul MATSUDAIRA\nProf Peter SO\nspace\nAsst Prof CARRASCO\nDr Stuti K DESAI\nDr FOO Yong Hwee\nAssoc Prof HE Cynthia\nAdj Assoc Prof Gregory JEDD\nAsst Prof Pakorn Tony KANCHANAWONG\nProf Patrice KOEHL\nDr Victor KOSTYUCHENKO\nAsst Prof LAU On Sun\n\nDr LIEU Zi Zhao\nAsst Prof LOH Ne-Te\, Duane\nAssoc Prof Antonia MONTEIRO\nAsst Prof Fumio MOTEGI\nDr ONG Lee Ling Sharon\nAsst Prof Timothy SAUNDERS\nDr TAO Shijie\nAsst Prof Yusuke TOYAMA\nProf Grey TUCKER-KELLOGG\nProf YAN Jie\nProf Hanry YU\nAssoc Prof YEONG Foong May\nAssoc Prof WANG Hongyan\nProf Thorsten WOHLAND\n\n\n\n  \nProgram Schedule and Registration\nThere are two types of registration: \n\nOpen Registration\nGraded module Registration (strictly for NUS graduate students who would like to read MB5104 as graded module\, leading to 4-MC).\n\n\n\n\nOpen Registration\n\n\nFOR\nDEADLINE\nREGISTER\nSCHEDULE\n\n\n• NUS graduate students who would like to attend as a non-graded module (i.e.\, as a listener) \n• Non-NUS graduate students \n• Postdocs \n• Individuals who would like to know more about Mechanobiology \nNote: This group of registrants will attend the open lectures only.\n17 July\, 2017\n Register now\n\nDownload schedule\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nGraded Module Registration\n\n\nFOR\nDEADLINE\nREGISTER\nSCHEDULE\n\n\n• NUS graduate (Master/PhD) students reading MB5104 as a graded module (leading to 4-MC) only. \nNote: This group of registrants will attend the full program. SUMMARY:Career Talk: Land your first Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role in Singapore by Merrel Lim (PharmD\, CCRP)
DESCRIPTION:Dear all\, \nMark your calendars (Thursday\, Aug 10th\, 1:15pm at L5 seminar room) for this exciting career talk by Merrell Lim on how to land a job as a medical science liaison in Singapore. \nThe Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a specific role within the pharmaceutical\, biotechnology\, medical device\, CRO and other health-care industries. MSLs have advanced scientific training and academic credentials generally consisting of a doctorate degree (Ph.D.\, PharmD.\, M.D.) in the life sciences. They concentrate on a specific Therapeutic Area (i.e. Oncology\, Cardiology\, CNS\, Pulmonary\, Hematology\, Surgery\, Women’s Health Care\, etc) and disease state. \nOn the Speaker\nMerrell is an Asia Pacific Medical Science Liaison Manager who currently works with The Binding Site to build a market for the company’s immunoassays in the Asia Pacific region. After practicing in the clinical setting in hospitals in the US and Singapore over the past decade\, Merrell decided to pursue his passion of improving patient care through a different route– the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. \nMerrell firmly believes that the role as a medical science liaison or medical advisor is an ideal opportunity for scientifically trained individuals who also have a strong interest in the business side of healthcare. In addition\, he strongly believes in giving back to society by sharing his knowledge and insights about the medical affairs field within the pharmaceutical and medical device industry\, especially for those interested in making a career switch from the laboratory or clinical settings to the more business-oriented pharmaceutical or medical device industry\, without giving up the passion in science. \nThrough his work as a medical science liaison manager\, Merrell has the opportunity to work with many leading hospital physicians from multiple disciplines\, bright business-minded marketers and sales executives\, as well as other scientists around the Asia Pacific region. \nMerrell is trained as a clinical pharmacist and is a certified clinical research professional. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University and a Graduate Certificate in Health-Systems Management from the Indiana University School of Medicine\, USA. \nOrganized by MBI Career Committee and MBI Women in Science
