SUMMARY:MBI Japan conference
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nDownload the 2014 MBI-Japan Joint Symposium poster (7.4MB PDF\, A4 size). \nAbout the symposium\nDuring the development of multicellular organisms\, cells undergo cell proliferation\, shape change\, and migration\, which are the basis of tissue morphogenesis. \nElucidating the forces that form and reshape multicellular structures and elicit a myriad of physiological responses is essential for understanding development. \nHowever\, only recently the molecular and cellular mechanisms that control the physical properties of cells and tissues\, and their environments have begun to be investigated. This symposium aims to bring together experts from different fields to pursue an integral and mechanical view of development. \n\n\nTopics\n\nMorphogenesis / Collective cell behavior\nMechanosensing / Mechanoresponses\nTissue mechanics\nCell polarity / Cell division / Cell fate decision\nPatterning\n\nConference Date\n2 – 4 December 2014 \nVenue\nMechanobiology Institute\, Singapore (MBI)\, Lecture Theatre 1\,\nNational University of Singapore (NUS) \nAccommodation\nPark Avenue Rochester\n31 Rochester Drive\, Singapore 138637 \nOrganizing Committee\nNaoto Ueno (NIBB\, Japan）\nHiroyuki Takeda (U. In addition\, we will have over 20 poster presentations\, presented mainly by young scientists. \nDownload the complete programme and abstracts book (PDF). \n\n  \nSession chairs\n\nSession I : Multi-scale dynamics – Yusuke Toyama\nSession II : Mechanosensing – Naoto Ueno\nSession III : Collective cell migration- Yusuke Toyama\nSession IV : Cell adhesion regulation and tissue integrity – Fumio Motegi\nSession V : Emergent properties of pattern – Tim Saunders\nSession VI : Symmetry breaking and tissue mechanics – Masahiro Sokabe\nSession VII : Cell division and growth control – Ronen Zaidel-Bar\n\n \n \n \nSpeakers\nSpeakers from Japan\nYasuhiro Inoue  |   Kyoto University\nShuji Ishihara  |  Meiji University\nShigeru Kondo  |  Osaka University\nErina Kuranaga  |  RIKEN Center of Developmental Biology\nTakeo Matsumoto  |  Nagoya Institute of Technology\nKenji Matsuno  |  Osaka University\nIsao Matsuo  |  Osaka Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health\nToshihiko Ogura  |  Tohoku University\nShizue Ohsawa  |  Kyoto University\nSatoshi Sawai  |  The University of Tokyo\nHideru Togashi |  Kobe University\nMasakazu Yamazaki |  Akita University \nSpeakers from Singapore\nChwee Teck Lim  |   Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore\, NUS\nPaul Matsudaira  |  Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore\, DBS\, NUS\nAntonia Monteiro  |  Yale NUS College\, National University of Singapore\nFumio Motegi  |   Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore\, NUS\nTimothy Saunders  |   Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore\, NUS\nMasahiro Sokabe |  Nagoya University / MBI\, NUS\nYusuke Toyama  |   Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore\, NUS\nMin Wu  |   Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore\, NUS\nRonen Zaidel-Bar  |   Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore\, NUS \nInternational Speakers\nYanlan Mao  |  University College\, London\nAnn Miller  |  University of Michigan\nNaomi Nakayama |  University of Edinburgh\nMaithreyi Narasimha  |  Tata Institute of Fundamental Research\nNadine Peyriéras  |  Institut de Neurobiologie Alfred Fessard\nSarah Woolner |  The University of Manchester \nRegistration\nRegistration is now closed. \n  \nTravel Fellowships\n  \nThe deadline for submission of travel fellowship applications has passed. \n  \nWe are pleased to provide a limited number of travel fellowships to support travel to Singapore for the conference. Eligibility is limited to graduate students who are working toward their PhDs and postdoctoral fellows only. Deadline for submission: 24 October 2014. \nTo Apply\nDownload and complete the Travel Fellowship Application Form (DOC) \nPlease note your poster title and abstract should be limited to 200 words (excluding names\, addresses and email addresses. Please do not include figures. \nSubmit the application form along with your Curriculum vitae (in WORD [.doc] format) to the conference secretary at mbi-japan-conference@nus.edu.sg. \nIMPORTANT\nYour Travel Fellowship application also serves as your registration. There is no need to complete online registration if you submit your application form via email to the conference secretary. Recipients of travel fellowships will be notified via email by the end October. \nSponsors\nThis symposium is supported by the Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore (MBI)\, and Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas\, Ministry of Education\, Culture\, Sport\, Science and Technology\, Japan. From molecules and cells to organs: trans-hierarchical logic for higher-order pattern and structures. \nAdditional support provided by Nikon. \nContact: mbi-japan-conference@nus.edu.sg \n  \nAbout the Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore\nInstituted in 2009\, the Mechanobiology Institute\, Singapore(MBI)\, was created through joint funding by the National Research Foundation and the Ministry of Education with the goal of creating a new research centre in mechanobiology to benefit both the discipline and Singapore. MBI’s primary focus is to identify\, measure and describe how the forces for motility and morphogenesis are expressed at the molecular\, cellular and tissue level. Toward that goal\, we are working to create a common international standard for defining these steps by developing powerful new computational models\, experimental reagents\, and tools for studying diseases of cells and tissues. Our goal is then to transfer these basic discoveries to both the clinic and the classroom. Learn more → \n  \nAbout The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research program\nThe Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)\, or Gakushin for short\, is an independent administrative institution\, established by way of a national law for the purpose of contributing to the advancement of science in all fields of the natural and social sciences and the humanities. JSPS plays a pivotal role in the administration of a wide spectrum of Japan’s scientific and academic programs. While working within the broad framework of government policies established to promote scientific advancement\, JSPS carries out its programs in a manner flexible to the needs of the participating scientists. \nGrants-in-Aid are awarded to promote creative and pioneering research across a wide spectrum of scientific fields\, ranging from the humanities and social sciences to the natural sciences. Grants are awarded to projects organized by individual researchers or research groups at Japanese universities or research institutes engaged in basic research\, particularly research in critical fields attuned to advanced research trends. Learn more →
